Strafing is one of the most important tips for you to learn when you encounter a battle with the enemy in Halo 3.

Their are different types of strafing that you can use for Halo 3.

Important: When attempting to strafe during a fire fight, BE SURE to not turn your back to the opponent and run away! If you are in a fire fight and you feel like you are about to lose because your enemy has one more shot on you, jumping for the last shot works fine if you are good at it. Because this makes you opponent disrupt his rhythm and possibly miss you for the last kill shot.

Types of Strafes

SHORT STRAFE: A short side to side movement that allows you more time to get in more shots on your enemy.

LONG STRAFE: A long side to side movement, typically left to right or right to left depending on if you are right or left handed.

Make sure you practice BR battles in close and far confrontations…

Important Tip: Lead your target when engaging in a Battle Rifle fight.. This will almost guarantee a 4 shot BR kill.

On Guradian Slayer

Typically the Overshield, Camo, Sniper Rifle, and Gravity Hammer will respawn every 3 minutes.

The needler 2 minutes

Carbine – 30 seconds
Assault Rifle – 10 seconds

Whenever you are are in a Lone wolve fight in Guardian, everyone is going to spawn in a general area. Some opponents will spawn closer to the Camo, overhshield, shotgun and so on..So if you are not literally right next to the camo or overshield, it makes no sense to run straight there because you are inevitably running to your death.

One way to determine how well you run a map is to find out your average life span before your first kill. Those guys that run for a spot when they are not close enough to will tell you how often they die and if they even get a kill before they die.

On guardian, most of the fights will definitely be occuring near the sniper rifle spawn or the yellow lift near the Active Camo. Also be aware of people that you just killed near the sniper spawn, yellow lift, and air lift to active camo. Why? because everyones first instinct when they die is to run immediately back to the spot of their last fight. So if you are still holding down the spot of your last battle. You are surely going to catch a couple of friendly grenades as a house warming gift.

Always chek the elbow near overshield as their is always a likely battle for the sniper rifle or overshield.. Toss a couple of grenades or pick up a BR to finish off someone with low shields.

Generally it is always a bad idea to run across the middle of the Guardian map. Unless you are play “Lone Wolves” with like 4 people and you see that all other 3 guys have died. Then it will be safe to run the middle. But for the most part keep the away from the gauntlet of death and find other means of getting to the other side of Guardian.

If you happen to running through the Blue Room and see a battle, make sure that you take a few exsolosives with you so that you can blow up the charges right above the shotgun spawn. Oh yeah did I mention…Get the shotgun if you can at all cost.

Also…You should always check for BR near Yellow Lift.

Stop wasting time running around the lower levels and trying to sneek up on other players! Why? Have you ever seen the “Revenge of the Sith” when Obi-wan chops off Anakin’s arm and legs…Ah yeah! Remember who had the higher ground?

My point exactly..:)

Source Halowiki.net
As a pro Halo 3 player one thing people always ask me is how do I get good with the Sniper Rifle? Well before I give you some great tips we need to talk about controller settings and your Television. I play with vibration turned off. The reason for this is when sniping especially no scoping a steady hand is a must. If you are trying to snipe someone and your controller vibrates it is likely to startle you and make you “jerk” this can make you miss shots. I also recommend using a wired controller. The reason is there is a slight lag on wirless controllers making your reactions slightly slower. You need every advantage to pull off those clutch snipes. Now lets talk about your T.V. Large TV’s make it harder to aim to due screen lag especially plasma and lcd big screens. I play on a 22 inch CRT T.V. I know it would seem like a big T.V. would make it easier to aim but this is simply not the case. While the big T.V.’s look nice they are not suitable for competitive gaming. Another thing to take into consideration is what sensitivity you play on. The default sensitivity is 3. Most pros play on 4-6. I myself use 4. A higher sensitivity doesnt always mean better. Anything higher than 6 will be very hard to snipe with. Now for my advice…

Tip # 1- When no scoping don’t charge your opponent, let them charge you this makes it easier to put your aimer where their head is and get a kill. This way you can aim where your opponent is going to be.

Tip # 2- It is easier to no scope when you are on an elevation higher than your opponent such as being at the top of a ramp and your enemy is at the bottom. So when you’re below an enemy it maybe best to use another weapon.

Tip # 3- A great time to no scope/beatdown or no scope is when someone is coming up an airlift and you’re waiting on them to come up. The reason this is true is because their body only moves up and down not side to side. This makes it easy to predict where they will be and get a kill. The lift put them in one motion and they always come up the same exact way so just practice this.

Tip # 4- No scoping in great for narrow hallways. The reason for this is that there’s not that much space for your enemy to go so the probability that you will get a kill is pretty good.

Tip # 5- Kind of a no brainer but look for your cursor to go red and shoot. Also if you hit someone once go for the beatdown do not try to get another shot off.

Tip # 6- No scoping is best done up close because the target is bigger when closer and you can go for the beatdown.

This was an Halo 2 article but i remade it for Halo 3 because it was a good article.

Bad Habit #1: I die at some point you are faced with your own mortality. Luckily in halo it is one 3 to 15 seconds. What I do next I think has the most profound affect on the outcome of the match.

Things to think about: 1. Get some firepower, a single smg is not going to get you anywhere except back to the “your own mortality” question. So gather a decent weapon combo before you go looking for a fight. Such as a BR

2. Do not let fights just happen; you must pick your fight. I think on most maps 90% of fights are avoidable until you choose to engage. Toss some grenades and move away, and if a player follows you will have the advantage of splash damage from the grenades. More likely he will go for cover get distracted and you can move on.

3. Plan your attacks. The more I play the more I realize that people all act remarkably similar in similar situations. This is part of what playing like a spider is all about. I think that a spider does not always have to play the waiting game though. Overswarm touched on this when he talked about dropping the bomb into the opposing base in beaver creek and watching the entire other team run towards it as he destroys them with a rocket aimed at the bomb. Events happen and everyone is wired to react the same way like lab rats. Be aware of when you are acting like this it usually happens to be 2 seconds before I am “forced to face my own mortality” but by identifying this behavior it can be overcome. Use this to your advantage; think about how you would react to yourself in a situation. That is probably how an enemy is going to react counter that and recounter, what is the next move? Where do I go? Where are they going to go? What are my outs? What is their salvation? Where do I want to engage? Where do they want to engage?

Halo 3 Tips and Tricks

4. You do not have to die. If you are in the middle of a fire fight and your shields drop, drop some grenades and back off (At the very least you get a smoke screen or you may get lucky with a kill). First of all you were most likely going to die 1st anyways, and you are back to start with no weapons. Second fire fights tend to attract people and more often than not a teammate will come in to finish the job. When your shields recharge you are back into it, to help your team. Think of it like this you’re a bear then a wolf comes in while you recharge and switch to vulture. The seamless switching of roles is important because once I know what your playing style is I know how to kill you.
